On Page SEO – Content for Search Engines and People

You have scoured the internet for for days trying to make sure that your on page seo efforts are all on target. Now, your website reads like a list of keywords and it is extremely boring. You have forgotten who the internet, and especially your site, was designed for; your current and potential customers. If you are creating content just for the search engines, all of your work will be wasted.

Do not forget to take the time to make sure your site is entertaining and informative to the end user. Even if people can find your site, if it is not user friendly, they will just move on.  In all likelihood, they will probably visit your competition. That is right.  The next guy in line who invested less time and resources on seo efforts could steal your lead.  How could this happen?  This competitor has a website that is not just search engine friendly but, it is also a site that is entertaining.  If you want your site to stand out and be well received then, use well written content that incorporates your keywords, but is not solely driven by them.  Make sure you are using quality optimized graphics along with a variety of visual techniques such as:

  • Infographics
  • Videos
  • Photographs
  • Illustrations
  • Whiteboards
  • SlideShares

Here is an example of a SlideShare that takes a plethora of great on page seo techniques and makes them entertaining and informative.

Final thought about on page seo from the people who read them

I have landed on hundreds of poorly designed sites with no actual information and they have absolutely zero entertainment value.  The site may have been optimized well but, it failed to capture my interest as a lead (and probably many others).  I am sure that I am not the only one with the perception that if they were unable to take the extra time to make their website worthwhile to potential consumers (their lifeblood), how would they treat me if I became a client?
